Beth and Tony de Castro were professors in well-respected universities- he with the San Francisco State University and she with the University of the Philippines- when they both decided to make a detour from their careers and devote their newfound passion for the soil and its very valuable companion- worms, which they've dubbed "angels of the earth." Together they've taught scores of farmers to transform barren, unproductive lands into thriving farms with the use of vermiculture. Here, they talk about how human health is jeopardized by the use of chemical fertilizers that deplete the soil of nutrients- thereby see the rise of diabetes, heart diseases and other ailments.
