Episode 33 - October 17, 2012 Guest: Carmen Dayrit-Padilla
Menchu is a reluctant concert pianist (though having recently performed in Russia), and is the present president of the International Organization of Folk Arts, a UNESCO accredited NGO. She is the former director of the Commission on Culture and the Arts, responsible for the funding and support of projects by Filipino artists. We discussed the waning cultural activities and music education of students in the primary and secondary levels as well as the lack of interest among the authorities to sustain sponsorship of the arts.
